On 13 September 2024, Disability Support Worker (DSW) Pat Finnen celebrated her 25th anniversary working at PALS. Pat’s incredible journey speaks to her unwavering hard work and dedication to helping others.
To mark this outstanding achievement, we invited Pat to tell us a bit about her time with PALS.
What was your initial role when you first started work at Novas before it merged to become PALS?
“My role at Novas was the same as it is today with PALS, a DSW. As a support worker back in the Novas days, I supported clients in computer programs, ‘Catering for Community’ events, snack van delivery to workplaces, and providing school lunches. I also had the pleasure of going to the Awakenings Drama Festival and Tri State Games.”
How has PALS evolved over the years?
“The organisation has evolved from a standalone centre to now include two community op shops where clients can interact with the wider community.”
“I have worked at the op shop for ten years. Over that time, the shop moved twice to where we have settled today. This was challenging for me with no experience in retail, but I’m very passionate about the op shop.”
Can you share a proud moment or significant achievement from your career?
“I am very proud and thankful to have had the opportunity to bring the op shop to where it is today. My biggest achievement in my time with PALS is the care and support I give to my clients every day, helping them reach their goals.”
Thank you, Pat, for being an invaluable part of our team and for your continued dedication to PALS and the clients and participants we support.
